London Dinner

St Anselm Hall Association

The London Dinner is one of the two flagship events for the Association. The dinner is a special occasion for St Anselm Hall Association and a good time is guaranteed. This year will be the 90th gathering in the capital and once again will be held at the prestigious RAF Club in Piccadilly.

For a number of years the London Dinner was held in the Hughes Parry Hall at the University of London. More recently it has changed to the Savile Club and then the Travellers Club. This is a less formal occasion than the annual reunion and aimed at all those based in or near the capital, whether recent graduates in their first jobs, or more established Anselmians.

There is a specific mailing list for this event; if you have slipped through the net and would like to be added to the list, please write to the Association via the Hall. The mailing list has recently been dramatically updated, and we do therefore expect to have larger gatherings than in recent years; do come along and enjoy yourself!

This popular event brings together friends both old and new alike for an update on the hall and its activities. It’s also a chance to see inside the RAF Club, a private members’ club dating back to 1918 when the first Lord Cowdray made a gift to provide a permanent building to house the Royal Air Force Club. The Piccadilly frontage was originally the Ladies’ Lyceum Club and was built in the 1800s, whilst the rear half, facing Old Park Lane, was stables. Between 1919 and 1921 extensive reconstruction took place, largely financed by Lord Cowdray.. The Club’s dress code is jacket and tie for gentlemen and dress or trousers and smart top for ladies. As always, spouses, partners and guests are very welcome.

The cost is to be confirmed however last year it was £65 per person to cover a 3-course set menu dinner in The Sovereign Room; cash bar also available.

Support Current Students

In recent years, we have invited current students to attend (space permitting), to give guests a first-hand impression of the Hall today and to network among Association members. This has been much appreciated by all and we encourage some support through a voluntary additional donation to help cover the costs of those places. We deliberately keep the cost of this event as low as we can.

We enjoy hearing from Old Anselmians, and we look forward to seeing you at one of the reunions in the near future.
