London Dinner

St Anselm Hall Association

For a number of years the London Dinner was held in the Hughes Parry Hall at the University of London. More recently it has changed to the Savile Club and moved forward in the year to October. Presently, the event is held at The Travellers Club along Pall Mall in the centre of London and occurs near the beginning of November. This is a less formal occasion than the annual reunion and aimed at all those based in or near the capital, whether recent graduates in their first jobs, or more established Anselmians.

There is a specific mailing list for this event; if you have slipped through the net and would like to be added to the list, please write to the Association via the Hall. The mailing list has recently been dramatically updated, and we do therefore expect to have larger gatherings than in recent years; do come along and enjoy yourself!

London Dinner 2018

We have great pleasure in inviting you to the annual London Dinner for Old Members of St Anselm Hall and a tradition stretching back to 1932. The arrangements are:

Friday 16th November, 2018; 7.00pm at
The Travellers Club, 106 Pall Mall, London SW1Y 5EP.
(Nearest Tube stations: Piccadilly Circus, Charing Cross, Green Park; limited parking nearby)

This popular event brings together friends both old and new alike for an update on the hall and its activities with the Warden, Dr Ben Walker. It’s also a chance to look inside the Travellers, a private members’ club founded in 1819 in the aftermath of the Napoleonic Wars. Designed by Sir Charles Barry, prior to his work on the Palace of Westminster, and opened in 1832, its renowned Library (where we shall dine) features the Bassae Frieze, excavated from a Greek temple by one of the founding members and for which the room was specially designed. The Club’s dress code is jacket and tie for gentlemen; partners and lady guests are very welcome.

The cost is £50 per person to cover a hot buffet supper with wine; cash bar also available.

Supporting current students

It is our convention to invite a small number of current students to attend, to give guests a first-hand impression of the Hall today and to introduce themselves to the Association. This is much appreciated by students and the Association for networking and we encourage any support through a voluntary additional donation to help cover the costs of those places (including their travel).

We enjoy hearing from Old Anselmians, and we look forward to seeing you at one of the reunions in the near future.
